Shiwi Ts’ana Elementary (STE) is committed to promoting each student’s potential and building the skills necessary for becoming a responsible, respectful, and productive citizen. STE staff recognized the tremendous responsibility we encounter daily and we will work on developing and maintaining a positive school environment. As a Professional Learning Community, educators and staff will recognize that our school improvement goals are to include culturally relevant curriculum and strive to align our school improvement efforts with the Zuni Public School District organizational priorities:
1. Improve the quality of learning & achievement for all students.
2. Schools operating as part of the larger community: Parental Involvement
3. Support strategies for most in need students.

Zuni Language Project - "Udena:we"

Mr. Dashner grew up and attended school in a small community in Southern Indiana. After graduating college with a degree in Elementary Education he returned home and taught 5th grade in his home town of Washington, Indiana.
After serving several years as a classroom teacher, Mr. Dashner decided to expand his horizons and moved to Namibia, Africa to work with schools, building computer labs and training teachers how to use technology in the classroom.
In 2010 Mr. Dashner returned to the United States and moved to Gallup, NM. He he took over Indian Hills Elementary School in 2013 and under the state’s grading system he improved Indian Hills’ school grade from an F to an A. Mr. Dashner is a strong believer in public education and believes that schools can and will improve their performance when they focus on always doing what is best for every student!
In his spare time Mr. Dashner enjoys almost every kind of outdoor activity including mountain biking, skiing, hiking, climbing and kayaking.

Ms. Janis was born and raised in Zuni, she is married with four children. Janis has over 16 years of experience in education. She worked in various educational settings including ZPSD, Zuni Head Start and Killeen Independent School District, in Killeen TX. After her graduate studies and after 14 years in the classroom she transitioned to leadership with the Zuni Public School District.
Janis currently lives in the Zuni Community and enjoys spending her time with family and being actively engaged in youth related community events. Her educational philosophy is centered around meeting students needs.
Austin Clawson grew up in Ramah and has lived in the area most of his life. After graduating from Ramah High School he served a 2 year Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Taiwan.
After his mission, he returned home and married his childhood friend and started his college education. He has come from a family of educators and has made the decision to carry on the tradition. After completing his undergraduate college education from NMSU he returned home and started his career in education in 2009 as a Special Education teacher at Ramah High School.
He has recently joined the administration team here in Zuni and has enjoyed the change in pace. Austin enjoys all sports and outdoors activities and he also enjoys being able to give back to his community and area by being a positive influence in kids lives. He lives in Ramah with his wife and four children where they as a family enjoy raising horses and doing many activities as a family from traveling to sporting events. He is thrilled to be able to be part of the Zuni Public School District and looks forward to all he can learn from and to those he can serve.
