  • In best practices while working collaboratively with parents, teachers, students and fellow professionals.

  • In being cognizant of the cultural and linguistic diversity of the population served.

About the Department

Good speaking, listening and thinking skills are critical to a child's academic success. Speech-Language Pathologists are the professionals in the schools who provide services that prevent, identify, treat and rehabilitate speech-language disorders.

Speech-Language Pathologists serve students in all Zuni Public Schools as well as Zuni Headstart. Private schools such as Christian Mission School and St. Anthony Mission School are also eligible for speech-language services.

Our Speech-Language Pathologists (SLP) hold valid certification with the New Mexico Public Education Department, Speech-Language Pathology, Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensing Practicing Board. Our SLP's have advanced degrees and hold the prestigious Clinical Competence Certificate in the area of Speech-Language pathology by the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ASHA). The CCC represents to the public that an SLP is a highly qualified individual who is knowledgeable regarding all aspects of the communication process. Our SLP's at ZPSD are provided with in-service training and continuing education opportunities in current methodologies, trends, and professional issues in the field of speech-language pathology.
