Presented by Zuni Middle School
Principal Susan Montoya
This is a

America’s Choice Conference in California. It was an overview on how
the America’s Choice program is being implemented in the Zuni Middle

Presented by
A:shiwi Elementary School
AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress) Presentation is a compilation of
different programs that the District uses to insure AYP for its
students.
We will continue using the Instructional Strategies that guided our
school to Make Adequate Yearly Progress.
We will adjust and modify instructional practices that have not been
effective and enhance those practices that have proven successful.
We will continue having HIGH EXPECTATIONS for academic success of
all students.
We will continue to work as a school team to achieve personal,
school and district goals.
We will work to leave a legacy of success with students attending
A:shiwi Elementary as being adequately prepared to succeed and
transition to higher levels of learning.
We will maintain the academic growth of fifth grade by following
established instructional practices already in place.

Report to the Board of Directors
We are fortunate that with the support of the Board and the District
Administration, we are now the only District in New Mexico and one
of the few in the nation to provide a full Offer Verses Serve
program in grades K thru 12. We are also the only District to
provide multiple entrees in conjunction with the offer versus serve
approach. This provides our students with no less than three entrée
choices each day at lunch time. While our school lunch and breakfast
programs are moving along nicely we also are still actively a part
of the USDA Fruit and Vegetable Program. This has been very
successful in our attempt to teach our students healthy choices in
snacks. We have received national recognition for our efforts. We
received the Victory Against Hunger Award from the Congressional
Hunger Center during the last school year. This award came with a
one thousand dollar ($1,000.00) prize to the District. In
cooperation with the Zuni Tribe, we took over the Summer Lunch
Program in the community. We had a very successful start this year.
We managed to feed over 39% of all eligible children during the
month of June (during summer school) and 25% of all eligible
children during the duration of the program. Additionally, we had
the distinction of being the only program in NM and one of the few
in the entire country to provide service on the weekend to our
children last summer. The participation numbers show that this part
of the program was both welcomed and needed.

Twin Buttes High School Jag Program
|
The (JAG) Jobs for America’s Graduates program is a dropout
prevention and school-to-career transition system for at-risk youth.
The JAG mission is “To assist at-risk and disadvantaged youth in
graduating from high school and to find entry level employment
leading to a career opportunity through a state-supported education
and employment system.” JAG focuses on keeping students in school
through graduation and, during this time, improving their rate of
success in acquiring employability and occupational competencies.
JAG classes in Zuni are being taught at Twin Buttes High School with
a total of 18 students currently enrolled in the 2007-08 school
year. The main objectives of the program are: (1) To help seniors
graduate (2) To seek post-secondary education (3) To obtain a job
(4) To get started on a solid career path
